About Us

The SOUTH HANTS KOI CLUB (SHKC), is one of many sections of the British Koi Keepers Society around the country. Our object is to promote and encourage the hobby of Koi Keeping within our Hampshire area and to aid fellow members where possible.

The Section was founded in 1990 and some of the founder members are still active in the club, which is presently thriving with many members.

During the Summer we meet on a Sunday afternoon every month, this is at a member’s garden or grounds. During the Winter we meet on a Tuesday evening every month (except January), this is at the All Saints Church Hall in Denmead. We usually have a guest speaker or some other Koi related event. Please see the upcoming events on our home page to see the exact dates, times and venues. We encourage non-members to come along to any of our events to see if they want to join our club. There will be absolutely no pressure to join our club, just a warm welcome as we are not sales people just friendly fish keepers.

Throughout the summer months, the club arranges various activities, trips etc. and we sometimes exchange visits with other BKKS sections and Koi Clubs. Our auctions have become a popular event we have a combined wet (fish) and a dry (equipment etc.) auction. This auction is usually held in June and at a huge indoor barn just South of Petersfield. The Koi for sale can be viewed in large vats within an indoor environment which is good for us and the fish. We also from time to time, hold pondside auctions if, for whatever reason a member (or sometimes a non-member) wishes to close down their pond. These auctions are an opportunity to purchase Koi at bargain prices.

On our own open days, maybe two each year, several members open their ponds to other club members and these days we finish up with a barbecue or buffet in the last garden. This is another splendid way of becoming acquainted not just with fellow members but also with the many variations of Koi ponds and filter systems.
